FAQ

FAQs

  • Do I have to charge my unit every year?

You do not have to charge your unit every year, unless you have a leak. However, it is very important to perform seasonal tune-ups. Please ask us about our  maintenance programs to make the most of your HVAC system.

  • If I lower my thermostat temperature, will it get cooler faster?

Air conditioning units will work at the same power level independent of the temperature adjustment. HVAC systems uses the most energy in the first 3-5 minutes upon starting up. After that, it will use less energy.  Constantly turning the system on and off will result in unnecessary energy consumption. Allowing the system run for 40-50 minutes at a time will yield the best efficiency.

  • Does closing off vents save money?

Many people think that when you close off your vents, you’ll reduce the amount of air that’s being pushed. In reality, keeping the vents open will allow the pressure load to be balanced.

  • Why is it necessary to replace air filter regularly?

A good rule of thumb is to replace air filters every 3 months. Inspect them every month and make the determination based on how dirty they are. Keeping these filters clean helps them capture as much dirt and debris as possible to keep your living space healthy. In general, most air filter manufacturers and HVAC companies recommend changing the air filter every 90 days or 3 months

  • Why should I get a maintenance agreement?

All cooling and heating systems require regular maintenance to operate at full efficiency, prevent  system malfunctions, and prolong the equipment's life span.

  • HVAC service requires proper licensing?

Like many similar service industries, the HVAC field requires certification for repairs and installations. Alfano Mechanical is fully licensed and insured.
